Cruises
Dumping garbage or untreated waste water at sea? Not any more! Not in this world of environmentally-conscious corporations! Green cruise ships have been designed to preserve the environment, not to damage it. Cruise lines are aware that their travelers prefer having choices that will allow them to reduce their carbon footprint. These companies have made huge investments in new ships and equipment in order to help their passengers accomplish that goal.
An example…ships have always burned diesel fuel while in port to generate electricity, which creates unwanted pollution. Green ships use a new Alternative Maritime Power system that allows them to use power from a source on the shore while in port. This can save a huge amount of sulfur emissions. They also have new water treatment systems, so that they can re-use water for deck cleaning, etc. Advanced treatment equipment removes all bacteria from water that must be dumped at sea, so that it is no longer toxic to the environment or living creatures.
When you plan your next cruise—remember to ask if the cruise line has green ships—you will feel much better about reducing your carbon footprint by such a simple act! Bon Voyage! |
